CONTINUING THE TRADITIONS OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE

Publishing its reference books series, Maximov Publications continues the traditions of the Russian publishers of the old times.

The first Russian reference book appeared as far back as 1733, when "1733 Court Guide" was published. Except for 1800, it had been published till 1917 containing information on the members of the Russian imperial court and its ceremonial proceedings.

In 1765-1799 and 1801-1916, there had been published in St Petersburg an annual Address-Calendar "A General Guide on the Heads and Other Officials of the State Administrations in the Russian Empire". This publication was undertaken by A.S. Suvorin’s Publishing House "Novoie Vremia" (New Times). In 1895 -1902, it had also published the annual reference book “All Russia. The Russian Book of Industry, Trade, Agriculture and Administration. The Trade and Industry Address-Calendar of the Russian Empire”. At the end of the 19th century, the address-calendars started publishing telephone numbers.
